The Republican Party is one of the two dominant political parties in the

The party was founded as an anti-slavery party by those who opposed the Kansas–Nebraska Act, as well as members within the File:WhigUSA-icon.png Whig Party and the File:FreeSoil-icon.png Free Soil Party, in 1854.
