Alternative for Germany (German: Alternative für Deutschland, AfD) is a far-right political party in Germany. Founded in 2013 as a resistance movement to Angela Merkel and mainstream policies, it has seen a sharp rise in popularity. As of 2025, it is the second-largest party in the country and is the largest opposition party in the 21st Bundestag.
The party's popularity is most dominant in the former Communist German Democratic Republic.
