United States of America is a country in North America. It is a member of the United Nations and has a federal structure consisting of fifty states and one federal district. The U.S. has a significant global influence in economics, politics, and culture.

History

The land now known as the United States has been home to Indigenous peoples for thousands of years, with diverse civilizations and cultures thriving before European contact. The first European explorers arrived in the late 15th century, including File:Spain-icon.png Christopher Columbus in 1492.

The U.S. was originally a collection of British colonies before declaring independence on July 4, 1776. After the American Revolutionary War, the country adopted the United States Constitution in 1788, forming a new democratic republic.

Throughout its history, the U.S. has expanded territory, engaged in wars, and played a major role in global affairs. Today, it remains one of the world's most influential nations.
